Civic Centre sycamore trees to be felled
The overgrown sycamore trees adjacent to the Civic Centre have been causing increasing problems regarding drainage and grounds maintenance for both the Civic Centre and its neighbouring properties, the residents of whom have made representation to the Council of their concerns. The Town Council has obtained quotations to have the trees removed and replaced with suitable new trees at a cost of £3781 plus VAT for removal and replanting. However, although the sycamore trees are regarded as weeds they have a tree preservation order attached to them, and so it will be necessary for the Town Council to apply for planning permission from Wiltshire Council to undertake this work. In addition it has been suggested that a 70 metre boundary hedge alongside the Civic Centre be planted to improve security. Councillors at the Town Development Committee voted in favour of both proposals at their meeting on 8th October.
